Its importance means the road is also a space for communication.
Everybody makes intensive use of roads: pedestrians, cyclists, motorists. The opportunity of communicating with this very large public is therefore taken advantage of.
In urban areas they are also a meeting place where inhabitants meet one another near the shops, newspaper stalls and cafés.
At the same time, communication networks (telephone lines, cable networks, etc.) follow the layout of roads.
