4 February 2008

High performance concrete excels in many respects

It is often referred to as HPC and has many outstanding properties:

* Exceptional properties in the fresh state
* Good early age characteristics
* High long-term mechanical strength

which mean it has unique qualities as regards:

* Optimization of structures
* Reduction in maintennce costs
* Permanence of architectural structures
* Increased durability

Optimizing the formulation of HPC involves:

* Reducing the porosity of the cement matrix:
* Optimizing the granular skeleton

in order to obtain concrete with low porosity and high density which guarantee good mechanical performance and durability.

HPC is charaterized by:

* 28-day compressive strength of more than 50 MPa
* A water/cement ratio of less than 0.40
