Integration of power line supports in the landscape

Published on 22 February 2008

The integration of very high voltage overhead lines in the landscape is a new factor to be considered when designing the electricity network.

To this end, impact studies are performed for all power line projects. These take account of the path of the lines, the shape, type and colour of the supports and frequently use computer-generated images.

New types of support such as the more attractive "Lily of the Valley" poles are beginning to replace traditional lattice pylons. Other types of pylon, such as the "Corolla" are currently undergoing trials.
