The mix manufacturing process involves drying and heating the aggregate then mixing it with filler and bitumen.

The resulting mix is either poured directly into the lorries or stored in hoppers or silos before being transported to the worksite.

Today in France there are about 500 operating hot mixing plants, 400 of which are fixed and 100 of which are mobile. There is an equal number of continuous plants and batch plants.

Their capacities vary but many of them have a daily output of 1000 tonnes of mix, which means they have to process 950 tonnes aggregate and about 50 tonnes of bitumen each day.
